Registration for Religious Education Classes: September 10-11, 2011
Registration for new and returning students of Religious Education will take place after all masses, September 10-11, in the vestibule of the Church. Our program provides faith formation for public school children, grades kindergarten thru 6th grade. New students need to bring a copy of their baptismal certificate to register. RE classes are held on Sundays from 10:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on the Parish School grounds (south of the Church). Classes begin Sunday, September 18, 2011 until May 20, 2012. If your child is new to the Religious Education Program or needs to receive the sacrament of baptism and/or 1st Communion, please call Kristine in the Religious Education Office (619-276-1248) for more information.
As you know, parents have the primary role in educating their children. Parents have the right and responsibility to be the first to proclaim God’s love and teachings to their children. We are here to provide support in the religious formation of your children, but we can never replace the primacy of the parents in this role. St. Mary Magdalene Church provides faith formation classes to aid parents in this task of religious education. Our program will teach children about Jesus Christ, Scripture, the Catholic faith, and prepare them to participate in the sacramental life of the Church. We ask parents to take an active and enthusiastic part in their child’s religious formation, working together with their child’s catechists.
The Parish School of Religion uses the Blest Are We series (parish edition) published by Benziger. This text is in conformity with the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Please visit their website to view the content of your Child’s faith formation program, and reinforce this education at home. The website also has links for additional family activities: http://www.blestarewe.com/scope/1.html
Our Religious Education program also prepares children for the sacraments of 1st Reconciliation and 1st Eucharist. The program also accommodates older children who have not yet celebrated these sacraments. Please see our Sacramental Preparation Program page for more information.
We are in need of teachers for our Religious Education Program, which takes place Sunday mornings at 10:15 during the school year. This volunteer service can be shared with a team teacher, every other week. Teaching materials are provided, and training opportunities are available. Please consider this worthy ministry as a way of sharing your faith with others. If interested, call Kristine for more information (619-276-1248). I am more than happy to discuss any questions or concerns you may have, and to help in any way I can!
